The Dmaj7 guitar chord is pronounced D-Major seventh. It is a chord which consists of four notes:
The root note (D), a major third (F#), a perfect fifth (A) and a major seventh (C#).

No. 1 – The Open String Shape Of The Dmaj7 Guitar Chord

This open chord shape is very good for strumming on an acoustic guitar. Make sure to mute the low e & a string! You can do this with your thumb (see on thephoto above).

The root note is on the d string and the third is in the bass (lowest note). The A String can be muted with your index finger and the high e with your ring finger. Also a great shape for strumming.

If you like you can even play the open b and e string here. But I would generally avoid this because it sounds kinda special. But If special is what your looking for, then go for it!

This shape is great for picking or funky playing. Make sure to mute the a and the low e-string.

A relatively high voicing here. So it’s maybe not the very best shape for many situations. Like the previous shape it’s good for funky playing. Just mute the low e and a string! And play a clean barre with your ring finger.

This Dmaj7 guitar chord shape here is relatively high on the fretboard. So it might be very special. And on top of this, it’s with the third (F#) in bass. Just be aware of this…
Like the previous shape it’s a high voiced shape and not really useful for most rhythm guitar situations. But who knows, maybe you can write a great song by using this shape here…
