In This Tutorial You Learn How To Tune A Guitar In Standard Tuning By Using A Tuner.
Make Sure, That Your Tuner Is Set To 440Hz.
First You Need To Know The Note Names For The Open Strings:
These Are The Notes That Must Appear On Your Tuner Display.
A String Is Perfectly Tuned, When The Note Name Is Displayed And The Needle Is In Center.
Let’s Say, You Wanna Tune The A-String. This Is How A Perfectly Tuned A-String Would Look Like:
If That’s The Case, Then Perfect! Go Ahead And Check The Next String.
Do This, If You’re Out Of Tune
There Are Just Two Cases, Where We Need To Take Action: The String Is Tuned Too Low Or Too High.
If Your String Is Tuned Slightly Higher, Then The Tuner Is Displaying You Something Like This:
The Needle Is Off-Center Towards The Right. Your String Has Too Much Tension.
Therefore, You Need To Release String Tension With The Tuning Machines On Your Guitar Headstock, So That The Needle Moves Back To Center.
Just Tweak A Little. A See How The Needle Reacts.
If Your String Is Tuned Lower, Then The Needle Would Be Off-Center Left. And You Need To Increase The String Tension. It’s Really That Easy!
Do This, If You’re Heavily Out Of Tune
And Just In Case, That Your Guitar Might Be Heavily Out Of Tune, It’s Really Not Much Harder To Fix That.
Let’s Say You Hit The A-String And The Tuner Isn’t Showing You An A! It’s Showing You G!
No Matter Which Note Is Appearing On The Display, All You Need To Find Out Is This: Is It Too Low Or Is It Too High?
Take A Look At The Chart Down Below And Locate G Relative To A.
You See, From G to A You Have To Move To The Right –> Therefore, Your A-String Is Tuned Too Low.
To Fix That, You Need To Increase The String Tension, Until It’s Tuned To A.
So The Rule Of Thumb Goes Like This:
If It’s On The Left, You Are Too Low. If It’s On The Right, You Are Too High.
Alright, There We Have It. I Hope That This Was Helpful And You Can Tune Your Guitar.
